What is Counseling and How to Use It

For the last four years I have been studying to become a counselor. During this time I have come to appreciate what a powerful thing counseling is. However as I have been working with people who are new clients, I have realised that most people don't know what counseling is.
What counseling is NOT is advice giving. The counselor isn't supposed to tell anyone how to live thier life.
Counseling is a co-operation beween two people, where one listens and the other tells of their life, their pain, thier struggles and confusion. By listening intently the skilled counselor can reflect back to the client any apparent confusion or incongruence. For example, the client is saying that they really don't care that somebody has hurt them whilst the body language is slumped or tense. The body language is telling a different story.
Often the client is engaging in negative thinking and the same self limiting scripts go round and round their heads. If they tell themself they are useless/hopeless/ugly/a loser etc etc often enough they come to believe it. The counselor can reflect this habitual negative thinking back so that the client becomes aware of harmful patterns of thinking.
Sometimes it is as simple as just being there to listen to something that nobody else would. Many people feel they have to put on a brave face or they simply don't have anyone to tell their stuff to. The counsellor offers a safe, confidential and non judgemental place where any feelings can be explored.
By lifting up feelings into the light they can be safely explored and then the charge of pain is released allowing healing to take place.

Type 2 Diabetes Book - Brand New

I am letting people know about my latest e-book that I have just published on lulu.com. I have been concerned for some time now that many people with reversible symptoms have embarked on life long medication for Type 2 Diabetes.

There is much debate as to the true nature of this condition. Is it a genuine disease or a combination of symptoms that have been lumped together and spuriously named because it has some resemblance to Diabetes Mellitus - insulin dependent diabetes?

As a former sufferer of similar symptoms I believe that this condition is linked to yeast infection of the gut and so I have written a short and easily down-loadable book giving the holistic perspective along with a six step programme to guide sufferers back to health using only natural methods.

If you know anyone who could benefit from this information, why not pass the link on to them or if you want to dowload the book for yourself, simply click below.

There is a Cure for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome may not exactly be big news at the moment or the top of the "fear" list but it is certainly a condition that affects millions of people and has long term implications.

The term IBS is slightly misleading as the condition not only affects the bowel, but it causes fatigue, insomnia, skin problems, depression and strange conditions such as Restless Leg Syndrome.

Each person's IBS is unique to them and they will have their own personal range of symptoms, but essentially the whole problem starts in the gut. It is the effect of having ingested a diet laced with chemicals, having had antibiotics that have denuded the gut of its proper colony of protective bacteria, having drunk too much alcohol and also can be the result of having had dysentery or a particularly bad tummy bug. If we were talking about a chain of dominoes this would be the first one to fall.

The upshot of this is that instead of having a healthy gut flora that keeps the gut running sweetly, the client probably has a gut full of yeasts and pathogens that shouldn't be there. This represents the next domino to fall.

Then the yeasts damage the gut lining and people start to experience bloating, where the belly swells up after eating. This is an immune system reaction in the blood stream that circulates around the gut. This is often accompanied by pain, gas and either diarrhoea, constipation or a combination of both. Pathogens can also get into the bladder causing a frequent feeling of needing to urinate, even when there is no urine to pass.

The fourth domino would be the feeling of lethargy - which can lead to chronic fatigue diseases - that most people experience along with a host of other symptoms. The temperature regulation can go haywire, the concentration and memory are undermined, aches and pains in the joints may develop.

IBS is a nasty condition to have. But as I regularly tell my clients, it can be fixed quite easily and with all natural supplementation - no chemicals are needed.

This is the point of holistic healing. Rather than interfere or suppress symptoms, we try to find the "first domino" and fix it. It is a case of restoring the natural balance inside so that the body can do what it is so wonderfully programmed to do.

In order to help people who can't come to see me I have written an e-book - that means a book that you can dowload from the internet. It is to be found on lulu.com and the reference, if you are interested in downloading it for you or for a relative/friend is 3456126 in the books section and the title is Curing Irritable Bowel Syndrome by Christine Fadhley LicAc MBAcC.

The book guides the reader through the process of cleansing the gut, restoring the gut flora and the thorny problem of food intolerances and how to cope with them. It is written in non technical terms for ease of use.

The good news is that by going through this healing process a complete cure is possible and one's life can be totally restored. If you'd like to download a copy now - price is £6.50, please just press the button!

Case Study

Emma (age 21) couldn't eat anything without feeling nausea. She was also experiencing bloating, fatigue and other IBS symptoms.

Within a month of starting the programme she was already completely free of the nausea. I recommended she keep the programme going for at least 6 months to ensure that it won't recur.

Listening to The Spirit

I have been practicing acupuncture for 7 years now and to be honest I feel as if I am only just getting good at it. That might sound like quite an admission - and it is, but I need to put it in context.

Five Element Acupuncture addresses the spirit and through the spirit it addresses physical issues. I think my problem in the past was that I didn't actually have enough faith that this is true. When clients came with physical problems I would often put my analytical head on and try to fix their problems in a physical way.

Now I tend to listen to the client in a different way. I am asking myself what is his/her spirit saying to me. As I listen to them I get a feel for the acupuncture points that will address their immediate need.

I am more and more convinced that it is the spiritual needs of a client that are more important than the physical aspect. After all if the spirit is strong it can cope with life much better. Here are two examples of this:

Last week a client came for his 5th session. He has been feeling much better but was still complaining of feeling oppressed by his emotions towards his parents, whom he feels tried to take advantage of him and manipulate him when he was ill.

I decided to use an acupuncture point called "Spirit Burial Ground" which addresses heaviness of the heart and depression. It is located either side of the chest between the mid line and the nipple line, in one of the intercostal spaces (i.e. between the ribs). It helps that place in the centre of the chest where one can feel heaviness, dullness or emotional pain.

After I treated the points the client felt the need to have an enormous stretch - as if he had just woken up from a deep sleep. As he stretched he reported that he felt as if a heavy weight was lifting from his chest and at the end of the session he was smiling and looking more relaxed than I have ever seen him.

Later in the week another regular client came to see me and he too seemed quite down. He reported that his head was full of thoughts that kept on churning around and around. I felt inspired to use Spirit Burial Ground again, since it seemed his spirit had been buried under all of the worry.

Again the point worked its magic. This time there was no stretching, but at the end of the session I saw a peace and relaxation on my client's face that said it all. He looked happier than I have ever seen him during the 3 years he has been coming for treatments.

I am not averse to using needles to release pain - from a sore knee or ankle for example, but more and more I am seeing the value of addressing the spiritual needs of the client first and foremost.

I hope you enjoyed my musings for today. If you need to know more, please contact me on health@altmedic.co.uk.

Suffering from the Heat

The Chinese Five Element cycle recognises two seasons for summer. The current heat and humidity are typical of full summer, whereas after the worst of the heat has passed we experience what the Chinese call Late Summer - that time of gentle balmy days as the season wanes towards Autumn.

Many people feel very challenged by this full summer weather. They have difficulty in sleeping because of the heat and the humidity can feel very sapping of the energies.

In acupuncture we do Seasonal Treatments and at the moment I am giving all of my clients their Summer Treatment to help them cope better with the rigors of the season.

Many people feel difficulties in adjusting to the seasons, and this is where acupuncture can help us to cope better.

For example, I know that many of my clients feel depressed as the summer turns into Autumn. This is the time to have a treatment to help us adjust to the different energies out there in nature.

The reducing daylight, the cooling temperatures, the falling leaves and the ending of the summer flowers all take their toll and especially for those who are depressed, the thought of the gloomy winter months to come can cause a big mood dip.

Acupuncture is excellent for reducing stress - mental or emotional. I do a wonderful treatment called "The Aggressive Energy Drain" which is a bit like releasing the steam from a pressure cooker. It helps clients to relax and enables them to cope with life when maybe they have been hanging on by their finger-nails.

I did a treatment this week using a point on the Conception Vessel that is brilliant for helping people cope with extreme traumas like relationship problems (rejection, hurt feelings, etc). I have used it on clients who have experienced marital break-up, desertion and family rows in order to help them cope with the situation they are in. It can be miraculous as it helps to release the tensions and the weight of emotional pain.

Well that is all for today. I hoped you enjoyed today's holistic healing musings.

The Way I See It

I have been working as a healer now for more than a decade and during this time I feel that I have developed my own particular way of regarding health issues. I acknowledge gratefully the teachers that i have had during my journey of learning - including Nora Franglen, Ann Parker, Grahame Wyllie and my many clients, each of whom have taught me something new.

I'd like also to say thank you to Rosemary Moghadam who is the course leader on the Counseling course that I am half way through. If anyone out there is thinking of studying counseling - even just a basic course - I would encourage them to do it. Studying counseling over the last 3 years has been a formative and fascinating experience that has improved my self understanding and my interpersonal skills.

Staying Healthy

Staying Healthy is one of our biggest challenges as human beings in this difficult time. We are under attack from many directions. The four levels of being that I address when I am working with a client are the physical, the emotional, the mental and the spiritual.

What does this mean? To simplify it as much as possible, it means that on each of the four levels we may be experiencing imbalances.

  • Firstly, for example on the physical level we may be suffering from nutritional deficiencies or from toxicity both of which can be caused by a range of problems that are more prevalent these days thanks to our "modern" lifestyles.
  • Secondly, many of my clients are carrying a heavy burden of emotional baggage that can be blocking their progress and causing negative thinking that is self destructive.
  • Thirdly, imbalances in the mental aspect include "stinkin thinkin" (negative thought patterns) and allowing oneself to be sucked into the "illusion" side of life causing mistakenly polarized views such as success/failure, poverty consciousness, rejection, fear, jealousy and a whole range more.
  • Imbalances at the spiritual level can cause hopelessness, despair and fear of death but may also include spiritual attack by demonic forces that cause a range of health problems such as insomnia, pain, depression and so much more.
Some of you may be surprised by the last one - the spiritual level of being. Unlike our forebears many people have given up on God. The rise of disbelief in the spiritual dimension, and especially in God, has left humanity dangerously unguarded and unprotected, leaving us open for spiritual attack.

Much illness is caused by spiritual/demonic attack. I spend a lot of my client time using Christian healing methods to divest people of "unpleasant and unhealthy attachments". Using recreational drugs and tinkering in the occult can leave one even more open to attack.

I give the spiritual aspect priority over all other health problems when I treat clients. But there is only so much I can do on my own. The clients who progress the best are those who haven't given up on God. The one thing that humanity can do to help themselves is to become aware of the spiritual dimension and to ask for Divine help and protection all of the time.

I am a Christian as I have found that this is the surest and most powerful model to use in healing. However it isn't a "religion" thing, but an openness to the transcendent. After all, we may not be able to prove that there is a God, but we certainly can't prove that there isn't one either, and there are so many testimonies by individuals who have experienced God that it is wisest - in my opinion - to suspend disbelief and be open to all possibilities.

For example, I would recommend people to view aglimpseofheaven.com, the site of Ian McCormack who died and met Jesus Christ before coming back to tell his story all over the world.

In my next blog I will talk about some of the current problems that people are bringing with them to see me. I hope you will enjoy - and not be offended by - my musings.

Love and blessings
